Callahan’s Bar & Restaurant, Dundalk, County Louth

All-Weather Retractable Roof, Zipped Screen and Infra-Red Heaters

The Brief

Callahan’s contacted Avolon looking a solution to utilise their uncovered outdoor area. Prior to calling Avolon, they always had the outdoor area, but weren’t able to use it in cold, wet weather. They wanted to incorporate an outdoor bar area, with TV Screens for live sport.. Therefore the solution had to be water-tight when extended.

The area stretched 15 metre’s wide and projected 5.5m metre’s out (82.5sqm), quite a substantial area.

The Solution

The solution an All-Weather Retractable Roof. The roof when extended is completely water tight, with integrated guttering taking away the excess water in a controlled manner. This type of system also allowed for the bar and all furniture to remain outside all year round, without the fear of getting wet or damaged. Of course when the sun breaks through, the roof can be retracted with the touch of a button, allowing the public to enjoy sunshine, food, drinks & music in good old fashioned Irish summer beer garden style.

Along with the roof we also installed a Zipped Screen to keep the wind blowing in from the side, and 5 number Infra-red Heaters, to eliminate any evening chill.

We'd love to hear about your project.
